Linkedin was founded by Reid Hoffman in late 2002. But in just six years, the Mountain View, California company has become one of Silicon Valley’s stalwarts with 350 employees and is a recognized brand across corporate global world.

With more than 41 million members, 200 different countries, and executives from Fortune 500 companies.

Financially speaking, LinkedIn began in 2006, it was only last year that the company raised approximately 80 million dollars from investors, and is currently valued at 1 million dollars.

Its CEO and founder is also an active investor who has advised and financed more than 60 emerging companies in Silicon Valley, including Facebook.

 

Interesting facts of the CEO and founder of LinkedIn

Hoffman, a Stanford graduate, understood from the beginning the importance of building and supporting his network. In the early nineties, his life changed course and he returned to Silicon Valley, where he immediately began to search among his contacts to achieve his dream of starting a software company. But it was not until August 1997 that after resigning his position in Fujitsu began his first company (and seed of the current LinkedIn) called Socialnet.

The idea of ​​Socialnet was to have millions of people posting online, so Hoffman thought, what kind of applications can you build to connect them?

Socialnet concentrated on scheduling online dating, but it also included activities such as finding golf buddies, roommates and things of that sort.

Despite his efforts and despite having a good idea, the project did not prosper and Hoffman decided to accept a position as executive vice president of business development, in the well-known online secure payment company, PayPal.

 

The birth of an idea

During his time in PayPal is when he began to realize how the work world was changing and decided that for the first time in his life, his company will be financially supported by himself. PayPal then became a part of eBay and Hoffman lost his job, this is when he had the courage to start LinkedIn.

The movement began. The first doubts and anxieties began to emerge. This is where the risk became reality and every move he made was critical. Hoffman could not forget the financial risk that he was taking.

"Is this going to work? Are we going to have enough money to be able to get close to the venture capitalists?"

"I have a strong belief that starting a business during an economic downturn is the right time to do it because it gives you ground. It's harder to raise capital, but if you succeed, it gives you a huge advantage "

In 2002, despite being a good year for the “.com” , LinkedIn continued its gradually develop. Currently, it is one of the main platforms for job search, talent acquisition, and online networking, worldwide.
